Comparing Cloud Server VPS Benchmarks

Have you wondered with you are paying more for VPS or Cloud Server resources and your sites do not handle any more traffic and page loads have not improved?  While configuration and choosing the right web server technologies matter, we are all still bound to physics when it comes to quality of resources, multi-tenancy on the hardware, how the hardware is taxed/over-provisioned, and how it affects performance.  We performed a benchmark test at SpectroHost comparing entry level VPS/Cloud Servers from AWS Amazon EC2 as well as Linode to SpectroHost Fully Managed SSD Cloud Servers.  We used phoronix benchmark testing to perform the tests.

And here are the basic results from these Phoronix benchmarks:

Spectro Host VS. AWS Amazon Ec2 VS. Linode

Server Resources:

1 CPU core
8 GB to 24 GB disk space
8 GB HDD Spectro Host magnetic RAID used for the test (sold with 25 GB), 9 GB AWS SSD standard, and 24 GB Linode SSD,

Please do test our performance VPS if any doubt.

Below are the results.

Spectro Host – 25 G:

Intel Xeon E3-1270v3 @ 3.5 Ghz (1 Core)
1024 MB RAM
Ubuntu 12.04
25 GB SSD Ext3

Higher is better:
Apache benchmark = 10217.19
RAMspeed  SMP =       12948.09
RAMspeed SMP =        11704.23
PostMark                =          2161.00
Lower is better:
C-Ray         =                   159.34

AWS Amazon EC2 – t2.micro:

Intel Xeon E5-2670 @ 2.5 Ghz (1 Core)
1024 MB RAM
Ubuntu 12.04

Higher is better:
Apache benchmark =   1789.97
RAMspeed  SMP =         1192.98
RAMspeed SMP =            966.36
PostMark                =            252.00
Lower is better:
C-Ray         =                 2223.16

Linode 1 GB:

Intel Xeon E5-2680v2 @ 2.80 Ghz (1 Core)
1024 MB RAM
Ubuntu 12.04

Higher is better:
Apache benchmark =   3126.61
RAMspeed  SMP =       10028.11
RAMspeed SMP =          8661.97
PostMark                =          2043.00
Lower is better:
C-Ray         =                   234.04

The test was performed with Phoronix Test Suite on Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 bit with a GUI Desktop installed on each server.
Phoronix Test Suite was used to benchmark each server independently and with the same exact testing method.

Each server was tested with the closest possible match for hardware resources

SpectroHost will continue to carry out performance benchmarks and update you results.  Keeping it real!
